Breathless in Bolivia

OK, we are going to try to start blogging in real time. We have been away from computers for awhile and trying to play catch up. We have some interesting pictures from the Amazon and from our journey on the Tren del Muerte, but we will have to work those posts in later.

We have been in Bolivia for 3 breathless days, acclimatizing in the capital city of La Paz at 12,000 feet. We went into the high country today to speed up our acclimatization. A truck drove us up to nearly 18,000 feet where we scrambled up a few local hills and headed back down before we got too sick. In the morning we are headed into the mountains a week. We plan on trekking for three days to the base of a mountain called Huayna Potosi, then spending the next few days climbing it (at least Brent will). The trek starts at 14,000 feet...so we are in for a challenge. Huayna Potosi is a mountain near La Paz with a summit of 6,088m.

Happy Mother's day to Kay and Suzie!! We'll check back in a week or so...

17,500 in the Cordillera Real. This was our second choice for a wedding location but Provence has better wine.
