By happenstance, the Rwandan army was retreating from Congo as we were in the bordertown of Gisenyi. They gave up on a mission to weed out Hutu rebels (the guilty party in the genocide) who had fled into Congo. Hunting for a handful of people in the most dense rainforest in the world, they had little success and came back empty handed. That didn't stop a large crowd from cheering them on as they marched with their AK-47s, rocket launchers and mortars from the heart of darkness back into Rwanda. What the clip doesn't show is that these men were living in the jungle of arguably the most dangerous country in the world for quite some time. Here is a short clip of their return.
